As part of the 2025 celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of Cyfarthfa Castle, ‘Boom Town: How Merthyr Made The World’ uses data and AI tools to visualise over 200 years of Merthyr’s history.

From a just a few houses in 1700, Merthyr became the first industrial town in the world and it’s influence reached far beyond Wales.

Using historical data and archaeological evidence we brought the story of Merthyr to life with an energetic and contemporary style that reflected the blend of traditional and cutting edge research techniques.
