422 South worked with NC State University to create a data visualization film about The Yellowstone to Yukon Corridor (Y2Y). The Y2Y spans 3,200 kilometres along the Rocky Mountains, from western Wyoming in the United States to northern Yukon in Canada. This short film uses tracking data from animals that move through the corridor to reveal how wildlife navigates one of the world’s most important connected landscapes.
By mapping the movements of species such as grizzly bears, caribou, and golden eagles, the visualisation shows how animals rely on continuous mountain, forest, and grassland habitats for migration, breeding, and survival, highlighting the critical role of landscape connectivity in supporting wildlife across vast distances and international borders. One continuous shot, 37 data sets, hundreds of tracked animals, births, deaths, 10s of thousands of km travelled. There is hope still!
More information along with the film itself can be found here.
